11:00am Category: Classes[11:00am] Nathan Improv Local: Basingstoke Improv Fundamentals Weekend
Description:
For all walks of life, improv comedy will offer a development in confidence, communication and spontaneity. In-line with the background of Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell and Brits such as Eddie Izzard, Paul Merton and Phil Jupitus, the course advocates the use of improvisation for everyone. No need to be an actor or comedian, but you're allowed too. The weekend intensive is led by Nathan Improv. The workshops shall explore spontaneity and its application to create comedy live. There is a weekend course available for all. In the course, we shall explore thoughts on the use of fun, enhancing the performance of the players through using playfulness in their improvisation. Its rather obvious that fun is engaging to see and is also fun for the performers. Playfulness gets us out of the way of ego, judgement and expectations, which are three elements that kill our improv. We shall search the basics of improvisation: listening, agreement and adding, committing and supporting each other. Improv is an open art form, where we search for freedom and honesty for comedy! Nathan Keates (www.NathanImprov.com) is a professional international improv teacher that has various acclaims in testimonials and toured to various festivals around the world to both teach and perform. Keates has also directed many productions. In this weekend improv comedy intensive, Keates shall lead through topics from Viola Spolin, Keith Johnstone, Del Close and some from the Keates himself (amongst others). Let's find the funny together. Dates: Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June, 11am - 5pm. Book today! Category: Classes[1:00pm] The Nursery/Maydays drop in class
Description:
What is it? An afternoon of improvisation fun! Working on the skills at the heart of improvisation, such as listening, making offers and committing to your choices, each week you will go a little further into improvisation, meeting new people and working with different teachers. Every class is stand alone, so you can come along to one, or be there every week! Who is it for? The drop-in is a wide ability class, so everyone is welcome! It is ideal for people trying improvisation for the first time, or more experienced players who want to work on core skills. The atmosphere is accessible, fun and non-judgemental and you will find yourself doing things you never thought you could. What will I get out of it? Each week you will become more confident and relaxed onstage, taking more risks and feeling more creative and liberated. You will learn the attitudes and ideas that make improvisation work. You will also find these things translating into your everyday life. You will be more confident with people, more creative in your work and better able to respond to stress. What have previous students said? “A great place to spend a fun Saturday afternoon with a great bunch of people and learn improv from some of the best teachers in the country.” “A very relaxed and non-judgemental atmosphere which allowed everyone to learn from each other. Lots of fun!” You can secure your place by clicking here to book in advance online, or drop in on the day*. Class is capped at 14, and we cannot guarantee a place if you do not book in advance.
