Description:
Duos – build that two-person relationship About this Event This Experienced course runs every Thursday from 3rd September to 8th October, 7.30 pm-9.30 pm BST/GMT+1 Experienced (18 months+) A class for skilful players, especially those who have finished improv training programmes at their school and are looking to widen their horizons. These classes will make the assumption that you are comfortable performing longform improvisation and will push you. Doing scenes with just one scene partner is common – doing a whole show with just one other person is less common. If you want to start doing a duo or work on the current duo you are part of, this course will help you create characters you can sit in for longer, call back on more often and will provide time for you to work on the unique aspects of two-person improv. If you already have a duo partner and want to enrol with them, we highly recommend that and time will be given for you to work most of your scene specifically with them so you can get notes as a duo. If you can’t enrol with your duo partner or are “two-prov curious” and want to work on the skills of two-person improv, that’s fine too. Make the most of your duo by investing time and energy in that relationship on this course. A supportive environment and a chance for you to work out what unique strengths you bring out in each other will not only help build great duos but have knock-on positive side effects for the rest of your improv too! Min 4 participants, max 12. Lloydie James Lloyd is an improviser from Nottingham who performs with The Maydays and also with Rhymes Against Humanity – the improvised musical in Nottingham. He performs and teaches around the world and is the host of The Improv Chronicle Podcast, a documentary podcast for improvisers. Lloydie trained at UCB (New York), iO and Annoyance Theatres (Chicago) and with as many improvisers he has been able to find that keep his nerd-like passion for this artwork alive. In his spare time, he sings, writes and collects nice hand lotions.

Online Ten Styles of Scenes Improv Course
Description:
The fundamentals and joys of really great scene work About this Event This Intermediate course runs every Wednesday evening fro 10 weeks from 9th September to 11th November, 7.30 pm-9.30 pm. Intermediate (3/6 months+ regular improv) These classes will be opportunities to add tools to your growing toolbox. Normally these classes will expect players to be confident playing scenes. These classes will provide practice and specific new skills. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. In this new course, you will concentrate on the fundamentals and joys of really great scene work. No frills, no structures, just two people and (sometimes) a suggestion. Over ten weeks, Artistic Director Jules Munns will introduce you to ten styles of scene drawn from different improv traditions, You will look at how they are structured, what powers them and when they might be used. Treating this not as a set of restrictions, but as useful tools and shortcuts to shape your scenes, you will learn how to get the most out of your scene and therefore have the most fun. You will gain an understanding of how you like to play and what you can bring to a scene, as well as expanding your range and flexibility of play by learning how to combine different scene types. This course covers: “Let me tell you something” – Point of view scenes “I thought I was the only one” – Agreement scenes “You know what I like about you?” – Relationship scenes “Will you make me the happiest man?” – Genre/expectation scenes “Wait what?” – Platform/tilt scenes “If you will let me explain” – Frustration scenes “It is as the prophecy foretold!” – Protagonist scenes “Johnson, sit down” – Game/premise scenes “As I was saying” – Multi-part scenes “Everybody get in here” – Groups scenes With a maximum of 12 attendees, Ten Styles of Scenes is taught by Jules Munns. Jules performs with the Maydays and Impromptu Shakespeare, as well as being one-half of Ten Thousand Million Love Stories. He has performed and taught across the world, from Finland to Pakistan, Malawi to Canada. He creates improv blogs and podcasts and performs online for the Nursery.

Improv Skills for the Workplace Every Wednesday from 2nd September. Either at 13.00- 14.30 or 15.30- 17.00, depending on the date chosen. About this Event: The Maydays / The Nursery online business improv drop-in is an open group programme, allowing you to book a place as an individual, without needing to form a group in your own company. Whilst there are lots of benefits from our custom improv for business programmes, sometimes, you might just want to stretch your improv muscles amongst strangers. You can skill-up, tinker with your comfort zone and have some space to laugh and let go without worrying about who's looking. It doesn't much matter whether you're the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, the MD of an SME, or a mild-mannered janitor. Once you get in the room, everyone is equal, and everyone is supportive. It also doesn't matter whether you consider yourself to be an introvert or an extrovert. Improv for business: programme contents The business improv course is universally accessible. You do not need any previous experience of improvisation, you don't need acting skills, you don't need to sing or be funny. If you have some of those skills already, you're equally welcome, as long as you remember this is not about solo acts. Instead, using our extensive experience of improvisation in corporate settings, we build unimaginable levels of trust, collaboration, teamwork and communication. That alone may inspire you to take the spirit of improv back to your respective organisation, but there's more. You will also find yourself free of judgement and with your inner critic firmly silenced. We create an online space where you reconnect with your inner child, be spontaneous, think on the spot, make stuff up and laugh, a lot. Every programme is CPD accredited, so the points can count towards your personal development or annual training plan. Improv course outcomes Each session we run will include exercises to develop: - Self-confidence and interpersonal skills - Ability to make strong decisions in real-time - Group collaboration and teamwork - Presentation and communication skills - Agility and free-thinking - Active listening skills and concentration - Positive attitudes to being out of your comfort zone - You can be safe in the knowledge of your own improv brilliance, but for your organisation to benefit when you're back in the office or working remotely, you need to be able to adapt in the moment to the unexpected, without it throwing you off course. Who is this course suitable for? This course is intended for people working in a business setting, regardless of position on the pay scale. Whilst many of the participants will be business owners, executives, leaders and managers from all backgrounds, no one will feel out of place. Our trainers all have hundreds of hours experience facilitating online.
