Improv to performance class with Improvable

Description: DESCRIPTION
Improv to Performance: an 8-week improv course suitable for all levels.

Improvisation is a fantastic tool for acting, comedy, and life because it means saying, "yes!" and supporting your team members to create a show. You'll surprise yourself with the things you come up with, and be amazed at how comfortable you start to feel being silly on stage.

What am I going to do?
The course is structured into different topics that all together form the basis of improvised performance and play. We start off with the fundamental philosophy of improv, which is a playful approach to say "yes, and.." and explore the possibilities of adding to a mutual idea. This strategy enables us to create a unique team spirit and support within scenes. Through listening and story-telling exercises we learn the craft to spontaneously create ideas and games together and give the scene a direction.

A big part of improv is the exploration of human behaviour and emotional drive therefor we will playfully discover to work with our emotions and go with our initial instincts to fuel our character on stage and add truthfulness to the scene. The idea is to let go of self-judgement and bypass our inner critic to promote flowing communication and bonding. In that manner, there is no failure or wrong decision!

Object work, creating an imaginary picture on stage and adding to the scene by expressing yourself in many different ways will be also part of this improv course.

The 8 weeks will be filled with lots of fun games, acting exercises and improv games similar to "whose line is it anyway". There will be an end of the class show after the 8th class for an invited audience of friends and family.

Do I need any background or experience in Improv?
Nope! These classes are suitable for everybody!
But experienced improvisers also are welcomed; they will enjoy learning a whole host of new bespoke games to really up to your style quota.

What if I am a native English speaker?
You'll also need good basic English skills, but please don't be worried if it's your second language (take a look at "About the teacher" below..)

About your teacher:

Karolina was produced in Poland and born in Austria. She always had a soft spot for words and was a bubbly child who loved to engage total strangers into random conversations, much to her parents dislike.
Studied Journalism and Theater Theory at the University in Vienna, she became a journalist and editor. After some years of writing depressing news, she decided to follow her dream, joined a small theatre in Vienna and started to take drama classes.

In 2012 she moved to London and continued to train as an actress. Her first contact with Impro was at the gentle age of 31 and she immediately fell in love. Through improv courses, she met the rest of the Improvable gang.

Even though Austrian, she fails continuously to do a good Schwarzenegger impression (test her during the classes). She is an actress, who performs on stage as well as on screen, a kids party entertainer and an enthusiastic ukulele-player and you are going to love her!

Diversity Scholarships:

Improvable are pleased to announce a new diversity scholarship program, designed to make sure everybody who wants to play has a chance to. There are no set criteria for who can apply; if you want to come to a class but would struggle to pay for it, you are welcome to fill out an application form. We will do our very best to find a place or some help for all who need, and you are in no way obliged to disclose any sensitive personal information in your application.

The venue is wheelchair accessible, and most levels of physical fitness and ability can easily be accommodated.
