The Nursery/Maydays Online Improv Elective: Specificity, detail and being an exp

Description: This intermediate elective runs Wednesday 21st October, 7 pm- 9.30 pm BST/GMT+1

Great scenes are at the heart of great improvisation. So let’s spend some real time on them. Ideal accompaniments to the nursery longform or narrative courses, these classes are deep-dives into particular areas of scenework. They are also great workouts for intermediate or experienced players. Our expert teachers will give you simple, usable tools that can be employed in a wide variety of improvisation contexts. Students will work in detail on a single aspect of their scenes, receive feedback and, most importantly, get time to play, both in break out rooms and in front of the class.

It’s not just a car, it’s a 1983 Citroen Passat with leather upholstery, a custom spoiler and a 3.5-litre engine. Oh, and it was bought from my mum’s old boyfriend and maybe the most important thing in the scene. This class will help you to be specific not just because it is fun, but to learn about the characters in the scene and see opportunities for emotional change and development, making your scenes as unique and eccentric as you are.

Class includes:

Adding delightful and productive detail to scenes
Making assumptions, extrapolations and jumps of logic
Playing an expert in something you know nothing about
