The Nursery/Maydays Online Improv Elective: “You know what the problem with yo

Description: Playing arguments and conflict
This Intermediate elective runs Wednesday 7th October 7 - 9.30pm BST.

Intermediate (3/6 months+) These classes will be opportunities to add tools to your growing toolbox. Normally these classes will expect players to be confident playing scenes. These classes will provide practise and specific new skills.

Great scenes are at the heart of great improvisation. So let’s spend some real time on them. Ideal accompaniments to the nursery longform or narrative courses, these classes are deep-dives into particular areas of scenework. They are also great workouts for intermediate or experienced players. Our expert teachers will give you simple, usable tools that can be employed in a wide variety of improvisation contexts. Students will work in detail on a single aspect of their scenes, receive feedback and, most importantly, get time to play, both in break out rooms and in front of the class.

Although it can be useful for newer improvisers to avoid conflict, more experienced improvisers will find that there is a lot of fun in characters disagreeing while the improvisers agree. In this class, you will find the fun of characters that can’t stand each other and are very happy to say that. You will learn to torture your characters by cooperating with your scene partner and release the power of the dark side.

Class includesArguing productively while still looking after your partnerFinding the energy in negative charactersThe differences between helpful and unhelpful negative scenes
